From April 2011, a new system of marine planning is being developed in England. Marine Planning will have a significant impact on how our marine areas are managed – this is expected to affect, enable and support economic development, coastal communities and protect the marine environment.
Marine planning on this scale is new in the UK and, to a large extent, a World first. Critical to the success of marine planning will be to ensure effective integration between the new marine planning system and the existing terrestrial planning system.
This is an issue for all stakeholders, particularly commercial developers who will have to navigate both systems and for marine and terrestrial planners who will need to develop an integrated approach. This workshop will bring together these three stakeholder groups, and other stakeholders with an interest, to discuss some of the
challenges and issues of integration and co-ordination in the East marine plan areas and to suggest potential ways of working together to develop solutions.
